Start with a Statement Piece
A statement piece will anchor your foyer, drawing the eye as soon as you step in. A striking console table paired with an oversized painting is a timeless combination that never goes out of style (see below right). Mirrors are also a great choice for entryways as they reflect light, making the space feel larger and brighter. And speaking of statements, have we mentioned wallpaper? You know we’re always looking for an opportunity to squeeze in some fab wallpaper! Entryways are where you can really have fun with pattern and print, with the added benefit of having less acreage to cover.
Lighting is another important element to consider – what’s cooler than a funky chandelier? You can go to town with lighting in your entryway (see below left) and pick unique, fun pieces that might not be suited for a more formal part of the home. Hand painted table lamps, industrial chic wall sconces, Wabi Sabi pendants… there’s so much out there to pick from! Ps. check out our previous post on statement lighting for more ideas.
Personalize with Art and Decor
Your foyer is a great opportunity to showcase your personality. Adorn the walls with art that speaks to you—be it modern abstracts, classic portraits, or a curated gallery wall of photographs. Utilize greenery to its maximum effect here, with large potted plants flanking the console or a miniature bonsai on top. And most importantly, don’t forget about fresh flowers! A vase full of bouncy tulips or delicate lilies is sure to elevate anyone’s mood and will go a long way to making your entryway feel fresh and inviting.
When combined with small decor items like sculptures and candles, these elements not only enhance the entryway’s visual appeal but also offer a glimpse into your tastes and interests, leaving guests curious to see more as they enter your home.

ADD Functional and Aesthetic Storage
An inviting foyer is also a functional one. Ensure there is adequate storage to keep the space organized and clutter-free. A stylish console with drawers can store keys, mail, and other essentials. Baskets or decorative boxes can hide shoes and other items neatly. A well-placed coat rack or a series of hooks provides a convenient spot for outerwear, making the space both beautiful and practical. Don’t be afraid of imperfection – after all, homes are to be lived in! Showcasing a bit of your interior life in your exterior entryway can prevent your home from feeling overly stiff or formal.
HAVE FUN WITH FLOORING
Flooring is our secret weapon to really glam up the entrance to your home. Foyers are where we can get creative with tile, or splurge on statement Italian marble for maximum impact. As with wallpaper, the naturally smaller dimensions of an entryway mean that you can get great bang for your decor buck with less traditional or more expensive flooring. Bit of a commitment phobe? Rugs are your friend! A great console is practically screaming for the perfect runner underneath. We like to think of rugs as art for your floors, low cost yet high impact ways of instantly elevating a room.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT SEATING
If space allows, consider adding a seating area to your foyer. A stylish bench or a pair of chubby footstools can provide a comfortable spot for putting on shoes or taking a moment to pause. Upholstered seating is also a great opportunity to introduce additional texture and color, enhancing the overall design. Add cushions or a throw to make the seating area even more inviting and cozy.
Entrance foyer design is more art than science; it’s a small canvas but full of so much potential. While you may be brimming with ideas, the key is to edit and stop yourself from going overboard: a couple of statement pieces paired with quality furnishings are all you need to wow your guests when they step into your home.
