ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST
FIRST THINGS FIRST
Picking the right TV is the first step, before we get to discussing what goes around it. As interior designers, we’re sometimes accused of choosing form over function… but when it comes to the Samsung Frame TV, we’re guilty as charged. We totally get that the Frame is an investment piece but there really aren’t many substitutes around. It doubles beautifully as a piece of art: its sleek lines and wood grained frame make it feel as un-TV-like as you could possibly hope for. Opting for a design-friendly TV is half the battle won!
ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST
THE ART OF CONCEALMENT
Concealing your TV can be a stylish solution to keep your living room feeling cohesive. Consider integrating the TV into a custom-built media cabinet with sliding doors, or wall unit that conceals it when not in use. This allows you to enjoy the benefits of a TV without sacrificing the aesthetic appeal of your space. At Studio Oxley, we love the idea of incorporating hidden storage solutions that keep your living room looking sleek and clutter-free.
CURATING A GALLERY WALL
Another option for designing around a TV is to turn it into a work of art by surrounding it with a curated gallery wall (see above). Show off your best paintings, photographs and decorative objects and watch your TV blend in seamlessly. A gallery wall not only adds visual interest to your living room but also draws attention away from the TV itself. Mix and match frames, sizes, and styles for a personalized look that reflects your unique taste and style. You can also toggle the artwork on your TV, to set a different mood according to the occasion.
REWORK THE TRADITIONAL WALL UNIT
When most people hear “TV unit”, they picture the ghastly, oversized wood-and-marble creations of decades past. At Studio Oxley, we’re here to change that! You can spotlight your TV in a way that still feels minimalist and modern, without having to build out tons of cabinetry and shelving around it. We love doing a curved feature wall to add some depth, with a wall-mounted console for a really sleek, modern vibe. Concealed wiring is a key element to achieving this look; we highly recommend working with a designer to ensure all those ugly wires are safely out of the way!
